    Admitting

    Manager/Director: Christina Young
               
    The Admission Department provides services Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Area Case Manager and Director of Admission Services are available on-call for consultation as needed on Saturday and Sunday. The Nursing Supervisor acts as back up to the department after-hours, weekends and holidays for pre-admission assessments and coordination of the admission process.

    Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

    Cardiopulmonary Department

    The Cardiopulmonary Department at Kindred Hospital South Bay provides around-the-clock care by licensed respiratory care practitioners who specialize in keeping you breathing healthier! Inpatient and Outpatient services, which include breathing treatments, long and short-term ventilator care, oxygen therapy, Spirometry, Pulmonary Function studies and more.

    Cardiopulmonary services include but are not limited to:

    • Oxygen therapy and monitoring
    • Airway medication therapy
    • Pulmonary expansion therapy
    • Artificial airway management
    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
    • Ventilator management and monitoring
    • Patient Education and self care
    • Chest Physiotherapy/Bronchial Hygiene
    • Sputum induction, aspiration
    • BIPAP/CPAP therapy
    • Smoking Cessation Education

    Additionally Cardiopulmonary is responsible for an array of diagnostic testing including:

    • Electrocardiogram
    • Arterial Blood Gas/Venous Blood Gas
    • Simple Spirometery/pre-post pulmonary function
    • Holter Monitoring
    • Treadmill Stress Testing
    • Echo and Stress Echocardiogram

     

    We use the latest technology and ultra modern equipment for testing, diagnosing, and treating cardiopulmonary, neuromuscular, and respiratory disorders. Our staff is trained to care, educate, and provide up-to-the-minute healthcare resources to our patients and their families.

    Neurology Department

    Meet our Neurologist, who may have the best “bedside manner” in Southern California. Several different types of tests are offered such as: EEG’s, EMG’s and NCV’s.

    Clinical Nutrition

    The Registered Dietitian provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to all patients, which includes nutrition assessment, nutrition education and food supplementation/ nutrition support as needed.     

    Center for Wound Management

    Kindred Hospital South Bay Center for Wound Management is an outpatient clinic dedicated to the treatment of chronic non-healing wounds. A multi-specialty team of dedicated physicians and nurses work together to develop a plan to manage and treat these wounds. Each patient receives a specific treatment plan based on the etiology and severity of the wound.

    Types of wounds frequently seen at the Center for Wound Management:

    • Diabetic
    • Pressure
    • Venous stasis
    • Ischemic
    • Post-operative complications

    Laboratory Department

    Our mission is to deliver excellent care to all, with service that reflects the highest level of cultural sensitivity, accountability, respect and teamwork.

    The laboratory staff is committed to the principles of customer service, total quality management and performance improvement. Laboratory's goal is to provide highest quality care to all.

    The clinical laboratory is licensed by California State Department of Health Services, accredited by the Joint Commission and is certified under the Department of Health Services for CLIA. The Blood Bank is FDA certified. The laboratory participates in proficiency testing through the College of American Pathologists and the American Proficiency Institute.

    Organization and implementation of procedures comply with laws and regulations relating to clinical laboratories in the California Business and Professions Code and California Administrative Code, Guideline for Laboratory Management issued by the State of California Department of Health, Laboratory Field Services and Title 22.

    Nursing Department

    The Nursing Service Department is responsible for providing the patient and their families’ care that requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills derived from the principles of biological, physical, social, psychosocial and nursing process.

    The practice at the hospital is based on the nursing process, professional practice models, and recognized standards of care and is consistent with all-applicable state and regulatory laws.

    Patient care is provided by Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN), Licensed Practical Technician (LPT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and other nursing support employees.

    Patient care is accomplished through the execution of the nursing process, education for patient and family, fair and equitable management, quality improvement, and ongoing implementation and revision of nursing standards.

    Pharmacy

    Pharmacy hours are 8 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

    The Kindred Hospital South Bay pharmacy services goal in providing world-class pharmaceutical care stems from three main principles:

    Ensure the safety of our patients and staff by continuously improving the quality of care and the medication management process. A comprehensive medication safety plan and quality measures are part of our daily focus.

    II. Clinical Scope

    We provide a wide ranger of innovative clinical practices and educational programs that server to have a positive impact on patient outcomes and economic resources. Clinical studies continue to demonstrate improvements in patient outcomes and cost reduction as a result of expanding clinical pharmacy services.

    III. Operational Excellence

    Ensuring that the right medication is delivered to the right patient at the right time is a critical core competency of our pharmacy services. Continuously improving distribution processes to provide efficient medication delivery is a major focus for achieving operational excellence and cost effectiveness.

    Pharmacy provides a comprehensive array of clinical services to support the medical staff:

    • Vancomycin dosing and  monitoring service 
    • Aminoglycoside dosing and monitoring service 
    • Renal dosing adjustments
    • IV to PO interchange
    • Narrow therapeutic agents monitoring
    • Adverse Drug monitoring

    Radiology Department

    We provide contract CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound services as well as in-house diagnostic procedures.  Our department is equipped with a new CR/PAC’s system and is staffed with qualified Radiologists and certified Radiologic Technologists. Our “OEC 9800 Plus” C-arm (mobile fluoroscopy) is an excellent source for out-patient pain management cases.  Our department is open Monday-Friday  7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Call services are provided to cover afterhours, weekends and Holidays.

    Rehabilitation

    Rehabilitation services are provided in response to the physical, psychosocial and economical needs of the resident population--regardless of race, color, age or disability on a continuous basis, as appropriate to the condition of the patient. The Rehabilitation services hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

    Social Services

    Case Management/Social Services are provided Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m..  The patients served are the medically complex, acutely ill population that requires intensive Case management.  The Case Managers and Social Workers act as liaisons between the family, patients, and staff.

    The Case Management department facilitates weekly team conferences between family/patient and interdisciplinary team for updates on patient’s clinical status, plan of care, interventions, goals, weekly progress and discharge planning.  Also, we provide assistance for families/patients with placement, equipment, support services, referral to community agencies, emotional and psychosocial needs.
